Who We Are

Monitor My Connection ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website located at monitormyconnection.com (the "Service"). We provide real-time internet connectivity monitoring tools that help users track, log, and report internet outages and latency issues.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable privacy laws, Monitor My Connection is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

What Data We Collect

2.1 Data You Provide

We currently do not require account registration. No name, email, or password is collected during normal Service use.

2.2 Data Collected Automatically

Connectivity Monitoring Data

When you use the monitoring tool, we record the status of each connectivity check (online / offline / degraded), the timestamp of each check, measured round-trip latency in milliseconds, and your ISP name and autonomous system number (ASN) obtained via the ipinfo.io API. This data is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. If you enable cloud sync in a future feature, it will be stored on our servers under a randomly generated device UUID — no personal identifier is linked to it unless you explicitly create an account.

Usage & Analytics Data (Google Analytics 4)

With your consent, Google Analytics 4 collects pages visited, session duration, approximate geographic region (city/country), device type and browser, referral source, and anonymized IP address. This data is aggregated and used solely to improve the Service. We do not enable Google Signals or any cross-site tracking features.

Advertising Data (Google AdSense)

With your consent, Google AdSense may collect your IP address, cookie identifiers, and browsing behavior on this site to serve relevant advertisements. See Section 6 for full details.

Technical Log Data

Our hosting infrastructure automatically logs HTTP request data including IP address, browser user agent, pages requested, and timestamp. These server logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes only.

03

How We Collect Data

We collect data through the following mechanisms:

Browser localStorage

All connectivity logs are stored locally on your device using the browser's localStorage API. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export it or enable cloud sync (a future feature). You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser storage or using the export/clear option within the app.

Outbound Ping Requests

The monitoring tool makes periodic HTTP requests to public endpoints — including Google (8.8.8.8), Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), and others — to test your connectivity. These requests expose your IP address to those third-party servers in the same way any web browsing would. We do not control those third parties' data practices.

ISP Detection via ipinfo.io

We use the ipinfo.io API to determine your Internet Service Provider (ISP) name and ASN based on your IP address. This lookup is cached in localStorage for 24 hours to minimize requests. Your IP address is sent to ipinfo.io for this purpose. Review ipinfo.io's privacy policy at ipinfo.io/privacy-policy.

Cookies & Tracking Scripts

Only after receiving your explicit consent do we activate Google Analytics and Google AdSense tracking scripts. See Section 5 for a full cookie list.

04

Why We Use Your Data (Legal Basis)

Consent withdrawal: Where we rely on consent as our legal basis, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. Use the Cookie Settings button at the bottom of any page.

05

Cookies & Tracking

We use the following cookies. Functional cookies are strictly necessary and do not require consent. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you provide explicit consent via our consent banner.

Strictly Necessary Cookies

Analytics Cookies (Consent Required)

Advertising Cookies (Consent Required)

Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the Cookie Settings button in the bottom-left corner of any page. You can also delete cookies through your browser settings; note that doing so may affect the Service's functionality.

06

Google Services

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to collect aggregated, anonymized usage data. We have configured GA4 with IP anonymization enabled and data retention set to 14 months. We do not use GA4 for remarketing, cross-site tracking, or Google Signals. GA4 data is processed by Google LLC under Google's Data Processing Terms. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy. To opt out of GA4 tracking across all sites, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense may use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting adssettings.google.com. We implement Google Consent Mode v2, meaning advertising cookies are only set after you provide explicit consent.

Google Consent Mode v2

We implement Google Consent Mode v2, which manages the following four consent signals: analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data, and ad_personalization. All four signals default to denied until you provide consent. If you decline, Google may still receive anonymized, cookieless pings for aggregate modeling purposes under Google's modeling methodology — no personally identifiable data is sent.

Third-Party Services

08

Data Retention

When data retention periods expire, data is automatically deleted or anonymized. You can manually clear all locally stored data at any time from within the app's Settings panel.

09

Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. We only share data in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers: We share data with third-party service providers (Google, ipinfo.io, AWS) solely to operate the Service as described in Section 7. These providers are contractually bound to handle data in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request from a government authority.

Business transfers: If Monitor My Connection is acquired or merges with another entity, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via a notice on our website before any such transfer occurs.

User-generated reports: When you use the "Export Report" or "Share Report" feature, you choose to make your own connectivity data visible to whoever you share that link or file with. We are not responsible for how recipients handle shared reports.
